What legal benefits are available to Colombian companies during the COVID-19 crisis?

Estefanía Gutiérrez, an accountant, explains in a simple way the measures taken by the Colombian government to help companies face the COVID-19 crisis.

HOW CAN YOU USE THE GOVERNMENT’S NEW COVID-19 MEASURES TO HAVE A LESS NEGATIVE IMPACTED ECONOMY?

We are in a complex situation due to the pandemic we are facing, it affects the economy, mainly of small and medium-sized companies in our country, they support the Colombian economy. In order for the medium and long-term impact to be moderate, the government has reported some measures that can help you, as a businessman, to cushion the situation, some of these are:

  1. By working from home, your employees do not require a transportation subsidy, an amount that you can discount by supporting teleworking, as well as bonuses for transportation and food.
  2. You can send your employees on vacation, you can even advance their vacation if they have not met the time to receive it.
  3. Remember that some deadlines for paying taxes have been extended.
    The Mayor’s Office of Medellín modified the dates for filing the 2019 Industry and Commerce Tax returns, the 2020 withholding and self-withholding returns, and the 2019 Public Lighting Tax returns. For more information, consult the dates on the official channels of the government entity.
  4. The renewal of the business registration extended its deadline until July 3.
  5. The dates for the income tax return were extended, you can pay 50% of the value and declare with the second payment date.
  6. The DIAN is making it easier to request credit balances in your declarations.
  7. You can benefit from decree 558 of April 15, 2020, which implements measures to temporarily reduce contributions to the general pension system.
