Practical Tips for Managing Emotions and Being Productive During a Crisis

Alejandra Carmona, a psychologist, explains the impact of emotions on the work of entrepreneurs. She gives several tips and simple tools to manage them better, and overcome moments of crisis like the one we are going through with COVID-19.

How to better manage your thoughts and emotions to positively impact a business?

In these times of global change, it is possible to feel stress, anxiety and uncertainty due to the impact that the pandemic has on your life and business. It is normal, but it is necessary to remain calm. Remember that both emotions and thoughts cause biochemical reactions in the body that strengthen or weaken the immune system, making it prone to contracting or not some type of disease. The important thing is to try to maintain good judgment, desire and drive to adapt and open new horizons to opportunities.

Therefore, I want to share with you two recommendations to help you clear your thoughts and emotions. First, take a few minutes each day to identify unpleasant feelings and the situation that causes them; ask yourself if it is a circumstance that you can change yourself or not. If you can change it, write down at least two actions that help you transform that reality; if you cannot change it, you need to accept it, face it and learn from it; not with a resigned attitude, but with new ways of perceiving reality.

Here are some sample questions:

Second, think about strategies to adapt to reality and open your mind to all possibilities. Here are 7 sample questions that you can ask yourself and for each one, think of small actions that you can take in your business.

  1. What are the priorities of my business right now?
  2. What should I do with the money available in my company?
  3. How do I adapt my company or product to the new reality?
  4. How can I use social media to promote or distribute my business?
  5. Where on the web are my target customers?
  6. What allies do I have or can I look for now?
  7. What are the strengths of my business and how can I enhance them?

I hope that with these recommendations you can clarify your ideas to feel better; do not forget that although life is not easy, those who persevere and trust in themselves can achieve their goals (Marie Curie). Write us your questions in the comments and share this information.
